Virginia Natural Gas (VNG) is building our new Operations Headquarters at 401 Clearfield Avenue. VNG was proud to partner with local elected officials, staff, businesses and residents in nearby communities on this effort and remains committed to being an excellent neighbor to the families, schools and businesses in this corridor.
The approximately $50 million investment will provide an increase in local tax revenue from real estate and personal property taxes to the City of Chesapeake for the building and vehicles and will be the new home for approximately 150 team members who are currently located in Chesapeake and Virginia Beach. The Operations Headquarters is an additional investment in the region, complementing VNG’s Corporate Headquarters in Virginia Beach.
Virginia Natural Gas is committed to delivering safe and reliable natural gas service to more than 310,000 customers across southeastern Virginia. As part of this commitment, we regularly conduct safety checks and maintenance on our pipeline infrastructure through the Steps to Advance Virginia’s Energy (SAVE) program, our pipeline modernization initiative focused on enhancing the integrity, reliability and safety of our system.
Since the SAVE program began in 2012, VNG has successfully replaced 100% of the low-pressure pipelines in our system, upgrading more than 575+ miles of aging infrastructure with modern, durable materials. These upgrades have helped reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 35% since 2012, supporting our mission to provide clean, dependable energy today and into the future.
During SAVE projects, we replace older pipelines with newer ones that are more resilient, reduce methane emissions and are less expensive to maintain. You may notice our qualified employees and contractors working in your neighborhood as part of these ongoing improvements.
Step’s to Advance Virginia’s Energy (SAVE) Program
At Virginia Natural Gas, safety is our top priority! We are committed to maintaining a safe and reliable natural gas pipeline infrastructure.
SAVE is putting us on a pathway to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions from our operations by 2050.
VNG reminds community members to remain vigilant around any active construction site and practice the following safety precautions:
Utility line color codes are used to identify existing underground utilities in construction areas to help protect them from damage during digging and excavation. This is done with temporary markings, either flags or a special spray paint. Please do not tamper with or remove these markings from an active construction site. Note, markings are used to ensure the safety of your neighborhood but do not necessarily represent areas where digging will occur.
