VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Nov. 8, 2018 – Virginia Natural Gas announced today that it has submitted a request to Dominion Energy to add a delivery station to connect to the Atlantic Coast Pipeline (ACP) in Suffolk, Virginia. The delivery station plans to deliver natural gas to meet the community’s existing energy demand and support economic growth.
The City of Suffolk’s Economic Development Department estimates the community has lost out on approximately $4 billion in new investments and 11,000 jobs due to the lack of access to natural gas supply.
“Ample supplies of natural gas and electricity are essential foundations to job growth,” said James K. Spore, president and CEO of Reinvent Hampton Roads. “Many of the region’s quality sites available to accommodate the business expansion or relocation that would bring that growth are located within the area to be served by the proposed Virginia Natural Gas’ facilities.”

Southern Company Gas, parent company to Virginia Natural Gas, is both an investor in and a customer of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline. The 600-mile underground pipeline is being constructed by Dominion Energy and will originate in West Virginia and travel through Virginia with a lateral extending into Chesapeake, Virginia. The Virginia Natural Gas delivery station in Suffolk would complement the planned terminus in Chesapeake, Virginia.
