VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Nov. 12, 2019 – In recognition for its part in giving back and making a difference in the community, Virginia Natural Gas (VNG) has been honored with a Community Impact Award by CoVaBiz Magazine and Coastal Virginia Magazine as one of the top businesses in Hampton Roads for leadership in corporate investment and community impact.
The company was one of 20 businesses and nonprofit organizations chosen for the annual award through nominations based on their impact on the community through innovative work programs, employee volunteering and creative business models that promote the social health of the area.
Virginia Natural Gas was recognized for its strong history of supporting the communities it serves while helping maintain and enhance the region’s quality of life.
“I am proud to be on this team at Virginia Natural Gas and work with people who are invested in the community we serve,” said Jim Kibler, president of VNG. “From charitable giving, volunteerism and environmental stewardship, to workforce development, VNG has long been a model of corporate citizenship centered on improving the lives of those living across our service territory.”
Annually, Virginia Natural Gas supports nonprofit organizations through charitable giving that is dedicated to enriching the lives of children and fostering education, energy assistance, environmental stewardship and community enrichment projects across Hampton Roads. In 2018 alone, Virginia Natural Gas donated more than $389,000 to 43 local charities and will surpass that amount in 2019.
With a solid history of volunteerism, the company’s 300 employees have participated in community events and given freely of their time, talents and energy to various programs allowing the company to make an even more substantial impact in the community.
Whether at the Boys & Girls Clubs, area foodbanks or helping restore the longleaf pine forests, VNG employees spread out across the region to improve the lives of the customers and community that the company serves.
“Being honored with this Community Impact Award recognizes the relationship we have with our community,” added Kibler. “With deep roots in Coastal Virginia, we know we are stronger as a company when we work to help build strong communities.”
Earlier this year, VNG received the Top Workplace distinction from Inside Business magazine as a direct result of employees feeling a strong connection with the company goals and commitment to community involvement. Employees acknowledged their appreciation for working for a company that provides the opportunity to spend a part of their work hours volunteering in the community.
