Virginia Natural Gas holds drive-thru school supply drive to benefit community students
Event Friday, Aug. 21 at VNG headquarters is open to the public
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Aug. 17, 2020 – The start of “school” may look a little different this year, but that doesn’t mean the need for school supplies has changed.
Similar to previously held food drives, Virginia Natural Gas (VNG) will host a drive-thru school supply drive to benefit the Salvation Army of Hampton Roads. The school supply drive will help raise the necessary items for returning students as part of the “Write Stuff School Supplies Drive” campaign.
The event will be held at VNG’s headquarters in Virginia Beach at 544 S. Independence Blvd. on Friday, Aug. 21 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held Friday, Aug. 28.
The school supply drive is being held to help families across our communities who may be experiencing financial hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic and provide the necessary supplies for students to be successful, whether learning online or in the classroom. Once collected, supplies will be distributed by the Salvation Army to students in need across Hampton Roads in late August.
This event will be open to the public. For the safety of our volunteers and the community, this will be a drive-thru event and those taking part are asked to wear a face covering. VNG is also asking that donations be placed in the trunks of vehicles, where VNG volunteers will gather the donations.
Needed school supplies include the following items:
Headphones/earbuds, binders, crayons, glue sticks, highlighters, markers, pens erasers, #2 pencils, book bags of various sizes, notecards, pocket folders, scissors, wide-ruled paper, pencil boxes, colored pencils, composition notebooks, pencil sharpeners and dry erase markers.
