VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – April 18, 2023 – The Virginia Natural Gas (VNG) Foundation has committed $75,000 to assist a local nonprofit organization helping low-to-moderate income families in securing financial stability.
The energy company's nonprofit recently presented a grant to the Urban League of Hampton Roads Inc. in support of ongoing initiatives to help program participants with financial fitness workshops and coaching.
“The Virginia Natural Gas Foundation continues to take steps to help our community members build a path toward financial independence and lifelong success,” said Robert Duvall, president of Virginia Natural Gas and a member of the foundation's Board of Directors. “We are proud to support the Urban League of Hampton Roads and its programs that help provide critical financial education and stability to our underserved communities.”
According to Gil Bland, Urban League of Hampton Roads Inc. president and CEO, the grant will help program participants build short- and long-term financial plans and achieve important outcomes such as developing a financial plan for the future, open and maintain bank accounts, improve credit scores and implement a budget plan to build monthly savings and investments.
"We are truly humbled and deeply appreciative by the aligned mission and support provided by the Virginia Natural Gas Foundation," said Bland. "Its significant investment of $75,000 in the Urban League is also a direct investment to the thousands of residents we serve across the Hampton Roads community each year. This funding allows us to help residents who have fallen upon financial hard times and are seeking support from organizations like ours to help them get back on their feet again."
The Urban League of Hampton Roads Inc. was founded in 1978 to enable African Americans and others to secure economic self-reliance, parity, power, and civil rights. The ULHR implements its mission by providing services and programs in education, employment, health, and housing to Hampton Roads communities through direct services, advocacy, research, policy analysis, community mobilization, and collaboration.
