VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Feb. 5, 2018 – Virginia Natural Gas, a subsidiary of Southern Company Gas, joined The First Tee of Hampton Roads to launch the educational golf program in 10 local schools in South Hampton Roads. Twenty physical education teachers participated in the kick-off Jan. 29 which provided professional development sessions to learn how to integrate the character education and health lessons along with basic golf instruction.
A check for $40,000 was presented which represents funds donated by Southern Company and Virginia Natural Gas to help support the program that provides training, equipment and resources to teach students the game of golf and the nine core values associated with it. Through after-school and in-school programs, The First Tee National School program helps shape the lives of young people from all walks of life by reinforcing values like integrity, respect and perseverance through the game of golf.

The First Tee National School Program has reached more than 14 million youth since 1997. Virginia Natural Gas plans to partner with The First Tee on more school programs this year.
