Virginia Natural Gas has partnered with Operation Warm, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing warmth, confidence and hope to underserved children, for a second year. In January, VNG volunteers delivered more than 160 new winter coats, with 80 going to the Boys & Girls Club in Hampton, to help local children keep warm during the cold winter months ahead.
VNG’s Community Affairs Manager Emily MacCartney spoke of the importance of the partnership. “You can see the joy in the eyes of the children when they receive one of these brand-new coats, in a color they pick. We are proud to be part of this initiative that makes a big impact on our community. For many of these children, this is the first time they have received a new coat.” Hal Smith, President & CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Virginia Peninsula, believes investing in the children in our community is one of the most important things they do as an agency, especially when the weather turns cold.
“We are extremely grateful to Virginia Natural Gas and Operation Warm for this gift of warmth,” said Smith. “This gift shows every child here that people in the community care about them. Being warm helps children maintain a feeling of comfort, safety and overall well-being.” In the past two years, through its partnership with Operation Warm, VNG has gifted more than 350 brand-new coats to local children.
