Our Charitable Philosophy

At Virginia Natural Gas, we are proud of our legacy as one of Virginia’s oldest corporations and our commitment to be a citizen wherever we serve. Working together to build a better future: that's how good fuels great. Our charitable giving reflects long-standing company priorities and the values of our employees who helped shape the program through participation in company events, and giving freely of their time, talent and resources. By aligning our corporate and employee resources, we extend our reach and strengthen our impact.

We support local nonprofits because we believe that's good worth fueling. Through focused investments in children and education, environmental stewardship, community enrichment and social justice, military and veterans, and energy assistance, we strive to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.

Our Key Areas of Focus

Children and Education – We support programming that provides opportunities for mentorship, career success, and workforce development. Our supported initiatives include introducing young people to STEM and energy fields, as well as offering equity programming designed for individuals from disadvantaged communities or those facing physical, medical, or educational obstacles.

Environmental Stewardship – We support projects and organizations that increase conservation, improve the sustainability of our region and preserve and protect our natural world today and for future generations.

Community Enrichment – We support programs that enrich the communities we serve by contributing to their overall cultural, civic and intellectual growth. We collaborate with organizations that promote health, safety and well-being, and that create equity for all people.

Military and Veterans – We support organizations that offer support to military families through transitions and emergency services, ensuring they have access to essential resources and general assistance during challenging times. Our commitment extends to programs that foster stability and well-being for families of those who serve.

Energy Assistance – We support initiatives that help households and senior citizens facing financial challenges manage their overall energy usage. These efforts include home weatherization projects, support for energy efficiency improvements, and emergency assistance.

Please note that Virginia Natural Gas can consider grant requests only from those organizations classified as 501(c)(3), tax-exempt by the IRS. Virginia Natural Gas does not contribute to individuals, religous organizations or private K-12 schools. See application below for details.  

How to Submit a Grant Request

 If your organization would like to submit a request for a contribution, please submit a grant request below.
 

Your Request Must Include

• A brief background of the organization (two pages or less) and its Board membership list.
• The organization's mission statement.
• A legible and most recent copy of the organization's 501(c)(3) tax-exempt letter and a W9.
• A clear statement of the project for which funds are needed.
• The amount the organization requests for the project.
• Sources of other support for the project and current financial statement of the organization.

Grants are most likely to be awarded to organizations that fall into one of the five focus areas noted above and whose programs benefit those within Virginia Natural Gas’ service area.
