Virginia Natural Gas Foundation awards $100,000 to Hampton University and Norfolk State University during Battle of the Bay
Grants will support scholarships, workforce development programming and student success initiatives
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – September 19, 2026 – During the 61st Battle of the Bay, the Virginia Natural Gas Foundation awarded $50,000 grants to both Hampton University and Norfolk State University, investing a total of $100,000 in scholarships, workforce development programming and other student success initiatives.
Presented on the 30-yard line before thousands of fans, the grants underscore Virginia Natural Gas' long-standing commitment to investing in students, expanding educational opportunities and helping build the workforce that will fuel Hampton Roads' future.
The Battle of the Bay is one of the region's most celebrated traditions, bringing together two Hampton Roads universities with a rich history of academic achievement, leadership and service. While the rivalry energizes fans each year, the investment reflects a shared commitment to helping students succeed in the classroom, in their careers and in their communities.
