Virginia Natural Gas makes special delivery to local nonprofit

Virginia Natural Gas (VNG) recently made a special delivery of school supplies to help local children get ready for the new school year. A total of 148 stuffed backpacks along with many other items including glue sticks, notebooks, pencils, markers, binders and loose-leaf paper were donated by two VNG contractors, Cross Underground and Southeast Connections, and VNG employees. The supplies gathered were dropped off at REACH, an organization dedicated to promoting literacy for children in Coastal Virginia through access and ownership of books.

REACH plans to use the donated school supplies in its bookstore for families and children as well as its teacher resource program to empower educators and their students with the needed tools to succeed in the classroom and at home. The organization currently supports more than 100 teachers with resources for the classroom and other educational events.

Since its opening in November 2020, the REACH bookstore has served over 5,000 families with more than 600,000 free resources. Each month, REACH and its bookstore serve approximately 450 families with about half being returning guests.
