What is the American Rescue Plan Act?

The Commonwealth of Virginia has allocated funding from the Federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to assist utility customers. Virginia Natural Gas (VNG) received approximately $7.5M of this funding to be distributed to eligible residential customers.

Who is eligible to receive these ARPA grants?

Eligibility was determined by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Residential VNG customers with account balances that were past due over 60 days between March 1, 2020 - August 31, 2021 are eligible to receive this one-time grant to help pay down balances owed. 

How much will each eligible customer receive?

Eligible customers with active service agreements on November 30, 2021 will receive approximately 70% of the over 60 day past due balance that was calculated on August 31, 2021.

When will eligible customers receive these grants?

Eligible customers will see the grant listed as “American Rescue Plan Grant” on their December 2021 bill.

Does this grant need to be paid back?

No. These funds will be awarded as grants and credited directly to eligible customer accounts and do not need to be repaid. 

What if I still have a remaining balance after I receive the grant?

Virginia has lifted its freeze on utility service disconnections, leaving customers with unpaid balances subject to having their service turned off. If your account has a remaining balance after you have received a grant and you cannot pay it in full, act now.  We encourage you to take advantage of a special opportunity to pay off your remaining balance in 12 monthly installments, with no down payment, to avoid future service interruptions for non-payment.

How do I set up a payment arrangement for a remaining balance?

Payment arrangements can be set up online as a My Account registered user or as a guest by visiting virgnianaturalgas.com/myaccount.
