To serve Suffolk community, Virginia Natural Gas seeks additional delivery station on Atlantic Coast Pipeline
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Nov. 8, 2018 – Virginia Natural Gas announced today that it has submitted a request to Dominion Energy to add a delivery station to connect to the Atlantic Coast Pipeline (ACP) in Suffolk, Virginia. The delivery station plans to deliver natural gas to meet the community’s existing energy demand and support economic growth.
The City of Suffolk’s Economic Development Department estimates the community has lost out on approximately $4 billion in new investments and 11,000 jobs due to the lack of access to natural gas supply.
“Ample supplies of natural gas and electricity are essential foundations to job growth,” said James K. Spore, president and CEO of Reinvent Hampton Roads. “Many of the region’s quality sites available to accommodate the business expansion or relocation that would bring that growth are located within the area to be served by the proposed Virginia Natural Gas’ facilities.”
“As the demand for energy continues to grow in Suffolk and beyond, this additional delivery station will help ensure we meet our commitment to provide clean, safe, reliable, affordable natural gas for our customers who count on us, as well as the communities where it is critical for their growth,” said Jim Kibler, president of Virginia Natural Gas. “Our customers deserve natural gas and electricity they can depend on at a cost they can afford.”
Southern Company Gas, parent company to Virginia Natural Gas, is both an investor in and a customer of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline. The 600-mile underground pipeline is being constructed by Dominion Energy and will originate in West Virginia and travel through Virginia with a lateral extending into Chesapeake, Virginia. The Virginia Natural Gas delivery station in Suffolk would complement the planned terminus in Chesapeake, Virginia. The exact location is to be determined and is subject to final agreement terms by ACP. For more information about the project, visit atlanticcoastpipeline.com.
“The additional supply of natural gas service into Suffolk and Hampton Roads is critical to meet the existing and future demand of our business community," said Suffolk Mayor Linda T. Johnson. “The actions being taken here locally speak volumes about the proactive measures we are enacting to welcome new private investment and job creation.”
