Coast-to-coast Natural Gas Vehicle Road Rally to Make Stop at Virginia Natural Gas Fueling Station

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – June 1, 2017 – Virginia Natural Gas, in coordination with Virginia Clean Cities, is proud to announce that it will host a stop on the 2nd annual “From Sea-to-Shining-Sea” Natural Gas Vehicle (NGV) Road Rally Across America.

The checkpoint rally, which is open to the public, will take place at 11:30 a.m. on June 15 at the Virginia Natural Gas public fueling station, 746 Diligence Dr., Newport News.

“We are excited to be a part of the second-to-last stop on the coast-to-coast road rally,” said Jim Kibler, president of Virginia Natural Gas. “This is our opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to expanding the use of natural gas as a transportation fuel. Natural gas is an advanced transportation fuel that is domestically produced, and because it is a greener fueling option, it also provides the benefit of helping consumers and businesses meet environmental and sustainability goals.”

Presented by NGVAmerica, the American Public Gas Association (APGA) and the American Gas Association (AGA), this year’s road rally highlights the many benefits of using clean-burning, domestic natural gas in transportation and the variety of vehicles available today that operate on natural gas. It also helps dispel the myth of NGV range anxiety – the fear that a NGV has insufficient range to reach its destination due to a lack of public access fueling stations.

Virginia Natural Gas operates two of three public natural gas fueling stations in the Commonwealth.

“This event is a great way to learn about this clean transportation fuel and meet with incredible individual leaders in the field,” said Alleyn Harned, executive director of Virginia Clean Cities. “It will be great to have everyone together and each mile driven in this rally represents major steps for clean air, and opportunity.”

The 18-stop, 4,825-mile journey starts outside of Long Beach, CA on Monday, June 5 and concludes in Washington, DC on Friday, June 16. Virginia Natural Gas’ sister company, Atlanta Gas Light, an event sponsor, also is hosting a stop on the road rally at the DeKalb County Department of Sanitation facility in Decatur, Georgia on June 12.
