Virginia Natural Gas makes $30,000 donation to EnergyShare
Financial assistance program helps eligible families pay for heating bills
March 6, 2014
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – March 6, 2014 – The prolonged winter weather has caused residents to use more energy to heat their homes compared to last year. The increase in energy usage likely will result in higher energy bills.
On Thursday, March 6 Virginia Natural Gas representatives Robert Duvall, vice president of operations, and George Faatz, director of external affairs, presented a $30,000 check to the EnergyShare program to help families facing financial hardship pay their heating bills.
The supplemental energy assistance program, which is considered a last resort for households that have already exhausted all other forms of federal and state financial assistance, provides individuals and families a one-time grant up to $200 per winter heating season. Applicants qualify based on income level, size of household and other criteria.
The program, administered by the Salvation Army Hampton Roads Area Command, receives funding by the voluntary donations of Virginia Natural Gas customers and its employees. Last year, those donations to EnergyShare totaled more than $70,000, and provided assistance to more than 235 families.
