Virginia Natural Gas warming local underserved families through donation of 250 coats
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – December 13, 2023 – A new winter coat provides warmth, confidence and hope. And for many children and families across Hampton Roads, it’s a necessity their family can’t provide. That’s why Virginia Natural Gas will donate 250 brand-new winter coats to local underserved children and families.
Through a partnership with Operation Warm, the energy company will gift 250 new winter coats to ForKids, a local not-for-profit that provides emergency shelter to families and children while working to achieve stability for families and a lifetime of success for children.
According to Thaler McCormick, CEO of ForKids, their commitment to helping families and children thrive begins with stable housing, a great education and a healthy community.
“We are so grateful to Virginia Natural Gas and Operation Warm for this wonderful gift to our children.” said McCormick. “We love that they can be warm this winter.”
This is the third year VNG has worked with Operation Warm gifting a total of more than 600 coats to local children. Since 1998, the nonprofit organization has worked with individuals, community organizations and corporations to provide coats to more than 4 million children across the United States.
“You can see the joy in the eyes of the children when they receive one of these brand-new coats, in a color they choose,” said Emily MacCartney, VNG Community Affairs manager. “We are proud to be part of this initiative that makes a big impact on our community. For many of these children, this is the first time they have received a new coat. It’s heartwarming.”
