AGL Resources Opens Richmond, Virginia Office

April 6, 2005

ATLANTA, Ga. – April 6, 2005 – Atlanta-based AGL Resources (NYSE:ATG), parent company of Virginia Natural Gas (VNG), further strengthened its ties to Virginia and its position as a leading East Coast natural gas distributor yesterday when it officially opened an office in Richmond headed by Jim Kibler, vice president of governmental relations for AGL Resources Mid-Atlantic Region.

“Having a corporate office outside of Atlanta is a milestone for AGL Resources,” said Paula Rosput Reynolds, president, chairman and chief executive officer of AGL Resources. “Its governmental relations focus and its location in Richmond, the state capitol, are no coincidence. We are positioning our public policy function strategically and logistically. Virginia is a key player in regional and national energy issues and matches up very well with our current operating footprint.

“I’m confident that Jim’s experience and relationships will help ensure that AGL Resources plays a vital role in shaping national and regional energy policy that will benefit VNG, our other Mid-Atlantic Region utility customers in Maryland and New Jersey and those all along the East Coast,” Reynolds added.

Before joining AGL Resources in January 2005, Kibler was a partner at LeClair Ryan, a prominent Virginia law firm. His practice focused on regulatory law and governmental relations, with an emphasis on energy, telecommunications and other regulated industries. Kibler counseled clients in acquiring, permitting, regulating and operating energy infrastructure, especially natural gas production, gathering, storage, transmission and distribution facilities. Kibler and his wife and three children live in Richmond.

“We have seen an increase in our activities in Richmond and the nearby area,” said Hank Linginfelter, president of VNG and Virginia Gas and senior vice president of AGL Resources Mid-Atlantic Operations. “As our activities and operations here continue to expand, it makes good business sense to open an office in Richmond.”

The office is located at One Capitol Square, 830 East Main Street, Suite 2002, Richmond, VA 23219. A reception attended by roughly 50 government officials and VNG customers was held last night to officially open the office.

As a member of the Virginia Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce, VNG already has numerous ties to the Richmond area, Linginfelter pointed out.

“VNG serves fast-growing Hanover County and supplies gas to the City of Richmond,” he added. “We also own and operate a 155 mile high-pressure pipeline that delivers gas to customers under firm transportation agreements within the state, which has the capacity to meet the growing needs of the area.”

AGL Resources has owned and operated Norfolk-based Virginia Natural Gas since 2000. On November 30, 2004, the company acquired Virginia Gas in Abington, Virginia; Elizabethtown Gas in New Jersey; and Elkton Gas in Elkton, Maryland; from NUI Corporation. Those three states make up the company’s Mid-Atlantic Region. Virginia Gas also operates a natural gas salt dome storage facility in Saltville, Virginia.
