Virginia Natural Gas Helps Polar Plunge Hit a Record $331,000 For Special Olympics

March 22, 2004

Natural Gas Company Volunteers Are Top fund-raisers at $20,000

NORFOLK, VA - March 22, 2004 - With the help of an army of dedicated volunteers from Virginia Natural Gas (VNG), the 12th Annual Polar Plunge Winter Festival raised a record $331,000 for Virginia’s Special Olympics program. For the second year in a row, the VNG team -- 97 people including 32 plungers – earned top fund-raising honors in Division 2, teams with 30-39 members, bringing in $20,000.

For the past several years, VNG has been one of the Plunge’s primary corporate sponsors, but company employees also play a big role as festival volunteers. For example, VNG employees help set up at the beach and clean up after the event.

“We could not put on the festival without help from my colleagues at VNG,” said festival chairman Chris Hall, an employee at VNG, which is a subsidiary of AGL Resources (NYSE: ATG).

Hall is the second VNG employee to chair the event, which has collected more than $1.5 million for Special Olympics Virginia since its inception in 1992.
