AGL Resources Lends Clean Up Assistance to Virginia Gas Subsidiary

ATLANTA - September 19, 2003 - AGL Resources Inc.(NYSE: ATG) began dispatching experienced gas crews to Virginia to assist Virginia Natural Gas (VNG) employees already working to reconnect natural gas customers who lost gas service in the wake of Hurricane Isabel. VNG is one of three natural gas distribution companies owned by AGL Resources. VNG provides retail natural gas sales and distribution services to 245,000 customers in southeastern Virginia, including Norfolk and Virginia Beach.

"For the past week, we've been aligning and preparing employees and supplies to lend assistance to VNG as needed," said Ralph Cleveland, Vice President and Chief Engineer, AGL Resources. "Beginning at midnight Thursday, when we had a clearer idea of VNG's exact support needs, crews and trucks from our Atlanta Gas Light Company (AGLC) subsidiary began heading out."

AGLC crews will join VNG employees already on the job in Norfolk and Newport News., In addition to personnel, AGL Resources is providing equipment, tools, and logistical support.

"The organization between companies this past week has been amazing," said Hank Linginfelter, President, VNG. "With AGL Resources supporting us from Atlanta, we were able to concentrate our efforts on what mattered most - keeping gas flowing to our customers. We know that anything we need is just a phone call away."

VNG is also working with local relief organizations, such as the Salvation Army and the Red Cross, and with local emergency personnel.
